Self-sufficient in 52 weeks (3) – Build your own first aid kit

A well-stocked first aid kit is indispensable, even at home. Most people have a few plasters here and there, but nothing complete. This week you’ll create your own first aid kit that actually works when something goes wrong.

Why this is important

A small accident happens quickly. Cut in the kitchen, burn blister, sprained ankle… If you then have to start searching, you lose precious time. With an organised kit you immediately have what you need.

What belongs in it

Plasters, antiseptic, painkillers, roll of bandage, quick bandage, scissors, tweezers, disinfectant wipes, tape, thermometer, gloves, tick remover, emergency blanket and a list of emergency numbers.

🧷 This belongs in a truly useful first aid kit

How to approach it

Choose a sturdy box or bag. Sort by category (wounds, pain, burns, insects). Store them in a fixed place that everyone knows. Note expiry dates and check your stock every quarter.

Checklist week 3

✅ Basic bandages and plasters
✅ Antiseptic
✅ Painkillers and thermometer
✅ Gloves and emergency blanket
✅ Everything in one bag, easily accessible

Conclusion

With one afternoon’s work you’re prepared for most minor accidents. It gives peace of mind to know that you don’t have to improvise if something goes wrong. You can also opt for a ready-made first aid kit.
