In a video we came across on YouTube, we saw how someone made a simple pull-pin fire starter. This fire starter is designed so that it easily produces fire even in rain or wind!

💣 What do you see in the video?

The video shows a survival technique for making a fire starter using a “pull-pin” method that works in extreme conditions — think camping, bushcraft or emergency situations. It’s a quick, simple way to make fire without standard matches or lighters and is typical of survival hacks and outdoor tips.

🔥 What is a pull-pin fire starter?

A pull-pin fire starter is a small, portable piece of material that you activate by pulling a pin, causing it to ignite immediately. It’s designed so that it easily produces fire even in rain or wind, which is important when you’re in nature and need fire for warmth, cooking or signalling.

📌 What can you learn from it?

You learn that making fire doesn’t only have to be done with matches: there are techniques and tools like this that:

Work reliably in poor conditions (wind, rain).
Produce fire quickly, which is crucial for survival.
• Help you be prepared for outdoor challenges without much material.

🧱 How to make it yourself

  1. Make 2–3 waterproof tinder bundles: cotton wool or jute + a small amount of petroleum jelly/beeswax, firmly compressed in a cap/mini-bag.
  2. Provide a “pull-tab”: tie a short ribbon/cord to the bag so you can pull it open in one go with gloves
  3. Always carry a fire steel with it (and practise for 5 minutes): pull-tab open, tinder ready, sparks on it, then thin twigs, then thicker wood.
  4. Test one bundle outside in wind/rain.

🤔 Critical note

Such survival tricks seem cool, but you need to understand how they work properly and put safety first — especially if (as the word bombs suggests) there’s some explosive action or heat involved. Only use these kinds of techniques with knowledge and the right materials.
