France is preparing a “survival manual” that all citizens will receive before the start of summer. It concerns a twenty-page manual on what to do in the event of an “immediate” threat.

The French government has divided the manual into three parts, which explain how to protect yourself and loved ones in the event of a health epidemic, a natural disaster or an armed conflict. The French General Secretariat for National Defence and Security (SGDSN) reports that the emphasis is not on the latter. The survival guide will contain a list of various emergency numbers and radio channels. In addition, the French also indicate which items should be in your emergency kit. They recommend at least six litres of water, some tinned food, batteries, a torch and first aid supplies.

A spokesman for Prime Minister François Bayrou told ‘Europe 1’ that the French want to “guarantee the resilience of citizens”. The survival guide is currently awaiting approval on his desk. Several other countries, such as Sweden, Finland and Lithuania, have already provided their citizens with similar brochures in the past. The Netherlands and Belgium have also taken initiatives.
